When the world feels a little too serious, a good rom-com is the perfect antidote. Think swoony eyes, witty one-liners, meet-cutes and a whole lot of “I’m totally gonna watch this again.” Below are ten feel-good love stories that are guaranteed to have you hooked.

  1. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003)

A true battle of the sexes, this film pits a "how-to" journalist (Kate Hudson) trying to drive a man away within 10 days, against an ad executive (Matthew McConaughey) who's bet he can make any woman fall for him. It's a masterclass in chaotic chemistry, iconic yellow dresses, and the kind of early-2000s banter that makes it endlessly rewatchable. I love it because it’s a perfect blend of high-stakes scheming and genuine laugh-out-loud moments. This is definitely an all time favourite!

  1. Letters to Juliet (2010)

An aspiring writer (Amanda Seyfried) finds a 50-year-old love letter in Verona, Italy, and sets off on an adventure to reunite the author with her long-lost love. This movie is pure escapism. It’s cherished for its sun-drenched Tuscan scenery and its heartwarming message that it’s never too late for a second chance at love, making it a uniquely sweet, multi-generational romance.

  1. 13 Going on 30 (2004)

After a humiliating 13th birthday, Jenna Rink wishes she were "thirty, flirty, and thriving,” and magically wakes up as her adult self (Jennifer Garner). This film is a nostalgic hug, beloved for its incredible charm, the iconic "Thriller" dance scene, and its sweet reminder to never lose touch with your inner child or your true friends. It perfectly captures the joy and confusion of growing up.

  1. 27 Dresses (2008)

Katherine Heigl stars as Jane, a woman who is literally "always a bridesmaid, never a bride," having served in 27 weddings. This film is a classic because it’s deeply relatable for anyone who has ever put others' needs before their own. It captures the burning frustration of being the designated helper, but its legendary status is sealed by the drunken, joyous bar scene where Jane and a cynical reporter (James Marsden) bond over a passionate rendition of "Bennie and the Jets".

  1. To All The Boys I've Loved Before (2018)

When her secret love letters are accidentally mailed to all her past crushes, Lara Jean's (Lana Condor) life goes from imaginary to out of control. This movie single-handedly revived the teen rom-com for the streaming age. It’s adored for its wholesome charm, stylish aesthetic, and perfecting the "fake dating" trope that leads to very real, very sweet feelings. And I mean, who doesn’t love a Jenny Han book turned movie/show?

  1. Bridget Jones's Diary (2001)

Renée Zellweger became an icon as Bridget, a charmingly flawed 30-something who chronicles her attempts to improve her life and navigate a love triangle with her dashingly sleazy boss (Hugh Grant) and a reserved, handsome barrister (Colin Firth). It’s a hilarious, heartfelt, and beloved for making audiences everywhere feel seen in their own imperfections.

  1. Legally Blonde (2001)

To win back her ex-boyfriend, sorority queen Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) gets into Harvard Law School, and discovers she's much smarter than anyone gave her credit for. More than just a rom-com, this film is an empowerment anthem. It’s an enduring classic because Elle brilliantly subverts stereotypes, proving that you never have to choose between being smart and being yourself. What, like it's hard?

  1. The Wedding Planner (2001)

An ambitious wedding planner (Jennifer Lopez) falls for a charming doctor (Matthew McConaughey), only to discover he's the groom in the biggest wedding of her career. This movie is the epitome of early-2000s rom-com royalty. I love it for the undeniable star power of J.Lo and McConaughey, its classic "love against the odds" plot, and its cosy, feel-good charm.

  1. 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

This clever teen movie reimagines Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew in a 90s high school. It’s a cultural touchstone, celebrated for its razor-sharp wit, a killer soundtrack, and, of course, Heath Ledger's swoon-worthy serenade of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" on the school bleachers, a truly iconic moment in cinema history.

  1. A Cinderella Story (2004)

Hilary Duff stars as a modern-day Cinderella, a diner girl who dreams of Princeton and chats online with a mysterious prince charming who turns out to be the most popular guy in school (Chad Michael Murray). This film is a definitive piece of 2000s teen nostalgia. It captured our hearts by trading glass slippers for a dropped cell phone and a royal ball for the high school Halloween dance, proving fairy tales can happen anywhere. And let's not forget, who doesn't love an iconic kiss in the rain scene?

And there you have it, ten rom-coms guaranteed to deliver the laughs and the love. Grab the popcorn, dim the lights, and get ready to swoon, I know I am!
